In our business we see a lot of different scams including many involving cryptocurrency and blockchains. Recently we have seen a pickup in “romance” scams that do not involve cryptocurrency or even computers. Simply put, these cases involve scumbags that prey on the elderly, often taking most if not all of their retirement funds. The perpetrators endear themselves to the victims and then slowly “borrow” every cent they can until there either is no more to take, an intervention occurs or the victim wises up. Most of us have elderly relations and it is up to us to keep in contact with them and find out what they are doing and who they are befriending. They need to trust you more than a stranger.
